Today's Photo Story - José Froilán González, the first Argentinian to win Le Mans, in 1954

On December 11, 1905 the highest temp ever was recorded: 48.9° Celsius in Rivadavia, Argentina. On June 13, 1954 José Froilán González became the first - and sole to-date - Argentinian driver to win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in a Ferrari 375 along with Maurice Trintignant.

Despite the geographic distance, an Argentinian named Hector Vasena participated for the first time in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1928, crossing the finish line with his Tracta in 16th place. It would take until 1950 and the arrival of Juan Manuel Fangio and José Froilán González to see an Argentinian once again at the 24 Hours (retirement), and 1954 for the latter to be the first Argentinian to win. Since 2014 and the participation of Luís Pérez Companc (fourth in the LM GTE Am class), no Argentinian has been at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans…
