Today's Photo Story - SMP Racing, first Russian team to win at Le Mans (2015)

On January 4, 1894, a Franco-Russian alliance was born following an agreement signed between French President Sadi-Carnot and Tsar Alexander III, after whom is named a famous bridge in Paris. On June 14, 2015, SMP Racing became the first Russian team to win a class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Created in 2013 with the goal of taking Russian drivers to the top level, the SMP Racing team quickly distinguished itself by winning the GTC class in the European Le Mans Series at its first participation before repeating the feat in LM P2, but one rung higher in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2014. Then the outfit became the first Russian team to make history at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the winning Ferrari 458 Italia driven by two Russians - Viktor Shaitar and Aleksey Basov - along with the experienced Italian driver Andrea Bertolini in LM GTE Am.
