Tom Kristensen: from Mister Le Mans to Mister President!

Tom Kristensen, nine-time winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, has never quite been so sought after as since he announced his retirement! Yesterday, as a result of the vote of the World Counsel, "Mister Le Mans" is now the President of the FIA Drivers Commission, taking over for Emerson Fittipaldi as he steps down.

Sir Tom Kristensen, knighted by Queen Margrethe of Denmark in 2014, now serves an entirely new function: President of the Drivers Commission, put in place by the FIA in December of 2012. The commission, composed of 12 members, represents and defends driver rights and interests in all motorsports disciplines. It is empowered to make, as it did this past September, propositions such as mandatory classes for drivers or track standards.

Tom Kristensen, former official Audi driver, was already Vice-President of a commission which included Emanuele Pirro, five-time winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, among its members. In 2013, the Dane was elected to join the executive committee of the FIA Institute, the international organization whose goal is to improve the safety and sustainability of motorsports, all the while promoting excellence and success.

All that with his role as preparer of Audi drivers, his stints as Grand Marshal, such as at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, and as a marshal-driver at some F1 Grand Prix, and his duties with the FIA, the 2013 World Endurance Champion isn't your average retiree by any means!
