Tom Kristensen, special guest at the Schloss Bensberg Classics

You might be forgiven for thinking that endurance racing retiree Tom Kristensen is now enjoying the quiet life. On the contrary, in fact – just last weekend, he took part in the Schloss Bensberg Classics rally!

At the Schloss Bensberg Classics historic rally event, nine-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Kristensen took to the wheel of a 1956 DKW F93. A car with just 38 hp and very little in common with the Audi R8, R10 and R18 that he drove to victory after victory at Le Mans! At the rally, Kristensen, now an ambassador for Audi, shared driving duties with Dr. Franz-Josef Paefgen, a former member of four-ring manufacturer’s board of directors. Together they covered the distance of 185 km in and around Bergisches Land, a region that sits at high altitude in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Elsewhere at Audi, there have been a few changes in the run-up to the 6 Hours of Nürburgring at the end of the month (24 July). Stefan Dreyer, who previously took care of the LMP programme engines, was made head of the entire LMP programme for Audi Sport on 1 July. Nürburgring will also be the first race for Erik Schuivens as engineer on the #7 Audi R18 driven by Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer. The Dutchman, who left Sauber F1 earlier this season, replaces Leena Gade, who has moved to Bentley to work on their customer motorsport programme.
