A few weeks before the 82nd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, SRT Motorsports forfeited the race. This time, the American manufacturer is pulling out of competition completely despite the Viper GTR-S's good results in the American endurance championship. Indeed, the No. 93 car claimed two victories this year, the first in July at Indianapolis and the second at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, while its No. 91 sister car claimed the third step on the podium at Road Atlanta this past weekend.

To maximize its chances at a title, SRT Motorsports chose to split the No. 93 Viper duo, Jonathan Bomarito et Kuno Wittmer, for the final round of the season in Georgia. Luck smiled on the Canadian driver, titled, just like the team. On the other hand, the Constructor title went to Porsche: the two manufacturers were equal in the points prior to the final race and the German manufacturer won the class.

Ralph Gilles, Senior Vice-President of Product Design, Chrysler Group LLC: "Our company has made a business decision to discontinue the SRT Motorsports Dodge Viper GTS-R racing program. We are very proud of the amazing achievements our fantastic teams, drivers and partners have achieved on track the last few seasons. We thank them for their hard work, effort and commitment to SRT Motorsports. It's been an honor to be a part of the inaugural IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season and we wish them every success in the future."

Chrysler made the decision to pull out of NASCAR at the end of 2012 despite Brad Keselowski's title.
