WEC and IMSA - Porsche continuing its partnership with Manthey Racing and CORE Autosport

Whether in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) or the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the official Porsche GT teams are entered in partnership with a private outfit, Manthey Racing or CORE Autosport, respectively. This collaboration has been renewed for several years and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche has announced that it is to continue for another year.

Historic is not too strong an adjective to describe the 2015 season in GT for Porsche in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, former moniker of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

In the WEC, with the exception of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the German manufacturer, along with the Manthey Racing outfit, made a clean sweep of the honours in the LM GTE Pro class: FIA Endurance LM GTE Pro Team Trophy, GT Endurance Constructors Cup and GT Endurance Drivers Cup for Richard Lietz.

It was the same success across the Atlantic in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship in partnership with CORE Autosport, winning the Drivers, Teams and Constructors titles, and as the cherry on top, an overall win at Petit Le Mans thanks to champion Patrick Pilet and Nick Tandy, winner overall at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans in the Porsche 919 Hybrid.

Though in 2016 two 911s are still entered in the U.S. under the name Porsche North America, only one car, entered by the private outfit Dempsey-Proton Racing, represents the German marque in LM GTE Pro in the WEC. On the other hand, two other cars are providing support at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Though entered under the name Porsche Motorsport, their use is ensured by Manthey Racing making its return next year with the new generation of the sports version of the 911 currently in development.
