WEC - The Balance of Performance in the LM GTE classes revised prior to Nürburgring

Following the 24 Hours of Le Mans and before the 6 Hours of Nürburgring, the FIA Endurance Committee has published the Balance of Performance numbers for the cars in LM GTE Pro and LM GTE Am.

The cars in the GT classes, which are originally series cars very different one to the next, underwent a battery of tests for a week last autumn to standardize their performances. Adjustments can be made throughout the year by the FIA Endurance Committee, whose decisions are susceptible to appeal, after the time testing of each car.

As after every race in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), the FIA Endurance Committee analyzed the performances of the cars in the LM GTE Pro and Am classes after the 24 Hours of Le Mans, third round of the season, to proceed with adjustments to the Balance of Performance.

In LM GTE Pro, though the Ford GT and Ferrari 488 GTE were subject to no modifications, the Porsche 911 RSR (2016) lost 15 kg in comparison to Le Mans and the Corvette C7.R lost 20 kg. But, the measure taken with American car carries no major consequence since no Corvettes are competing in the WEC in its entirety.

The weight of the Aston Martin Vantage remains the same, but the diameter of its air intake flange was increased by 0.4 mm, as was the Corvette's, while the Porsche's incurred a 0.2 mm gain.

The fuel tank capacity had been changed for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but has been returned to the same capacity as Spa-Francorchamps for all the cars.

In LM GTE Am, the Porsche 911 RSR lost 10 kg and the Ferrari 458 Italia gained 15, and the diameter of the air intake flange on the Aston Martin Vantage was increased by 0.3 mm.

The ensemble of the modifications included in the decision will go into effect as of the 6 Hours of Nürburgring which will take place on July 24th.
