Since the beginning of the GT-R LM NISMO's program, Ben Bowlby had taken on the roles of Technical Director and Team Manager, but now Michael Carcamo, who climbed the ranks of the Japanese manufacturer's Mexican branch, will assume the latter role so Bowlby can focus on the technical side.
Michael Carcamo: "Ben had his hands full trying to do everything; managing the design and build but also the race and test operation,” explained Carcamo. “That’s a lot to ask anyone to do, especially with a concept that requires this level of development. My knowledge of Nissan engineering processes and project planning experience will help Ben and the team concentrate on making the car deliver on it’s promise. The challenge that we took on was a monumental task. We have to learn all of the dynamics of this new vehicle and all the performance tuning so it takes a long time to find the sweet spot of performance. We recognise that challenge and we’ve added the resources and infrastructure behind the programme to try and bring it to that next level."
It's with this in mind that Nissan recently conducted a two-day test session at the Circuit of the Americas with Harry Tincknell and Olivier Pla. Though the car was driven with the hybrid system deactivated, like at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it demonstrated no reliability problems despite undergoing numerous modifications since Le Mans.
"We are committed to competing at the highest level and we are not happy when we are not winning," a déclaré Soichi Miyatani, le Président de NISMO, la branche compétition de Nissan. "Racing is a vital part of our DNA and we will work to get this right."
The Nissan GT-R LM NISMO should make its return at the Prologue, official testing for the World Endurance Championship (WEC), at Le Castellet March 25-26, 2016, but in the meantime, the testing campaign will be supported, like the development, as an area for which Nissan has recently recruited partners.
