Toyota achieved its quest for victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on the 20th attempt, with help from two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso. The Japanese multinational even added the flourish of a one-two finish.
Toyota had been chasing a win at Le Mans for over thirty years, with a particularly bitter disappointment in 2016 when Kazuki Nakajima came within a lap of the sought-after trophy, only to break down. This year, the Toyota crews left nothing to chance and brought home the top two prizes. Fernando Alonso, Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima won the 2018 Le Mans 24 Hours in the #8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid with the #7 of Kamui Kobayashi, Mike Conway and José María López runner-up.
