Despite a sometimes dark sky, the last qualifying session of the final round of the 2015-2016 Asian Le Mans Series season took place on a dry track. Three cars were unaccounted for: the Ligier JS P3 (LM P3 class) of David Cheng Racing, awaiting the gearbox housing that should be coming from France on tomorrow's flight arriving at 7:00 a.m.; Team AAI's McLaren MP4-12C, having problems with its gearbox and transmission; and lastly Atlantic Racing Team's Wolf (CN class), whose engine exploded in flames during the second free practice.
The ranking of the qualifying sessions reversed that of the free practice sessions: the Ligier JS P2 of Algarve Pro Racing ahead of the three Orecas of Race Performance, Jagonya Ayam with Eurasia and Eurasia Motorsport. Just behind, in order, are two Absolute Racing GTs, with the Audi R8 LMS and the Bentley Continental GT3. Then come Team AAI's ADESS (first in the LM P3 class), Clearwater Racing's McLaren that may snatch the crown in GT, Team AAI's BMW, Spirit of Race's Ferrari, the second Bentley of Absolute Racing, Nexus Infinity's Ferrari, also in the running for the GT title, the Mercedes of Team AAI, the Audi of ARC Bratislava, and Avelon Formula's Wolf (first in the CN class). The two cars in the GTAm class round things out, with KCMG's Porsche and Starspeed Racing's Lamborghini. Let's hope the three unaccounted for teams heal up so there is a full field of 20 competitors at the start of the season finale.
