Roundup after 20 hours: Toyota soldiers on

With four hours left, the #7 Toyota GR010 - Hybrid holds the lead over its sister car. Alpine and Glickenhaus are both still in the running in the Hypercar class and the race is tight in all classes.

Hypercar :

The Toyota pair, still ahead, now have a comfortable five-lap lead over the #36 Alpine A480-Gibson. The #7 marched steadily on while the #8 stopped mysteriously on track after the Mulsanne Corner before pursuing its course. The  Glickenhaus #708 007 LMH lies fourth.

LMP2 :

Team WRT remain in one and two, but the order has changed behind them. The #28 JOTA Oreca 007-Gibson managed to shake off #65 Pais Racing by way of a daring pass at Indianapolis. The current Pro/Am leader DragonSpeed USA lies 17th overall. This year’s innovative car entry, the SRT41 #84 Oreca 07-Gibson, is enjoying a steady run, in 33rd place overall.

LMGTE Pro :

The fight for first place is still going strong. The #51 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo seemed to have gained the upper hand over the #63 Chevrolet Corvette C8R, however at 10:30 the team had to call the car back into the garage. Deft action from the mechanics got the car back on the track a few laps ahead of its American rival.

The Porsche GT Team’s #91 and #92 are in third and fourth places and are gaining ground together but at some distance from the leaders.

After starting from pole, Hub Auto Racing threw in the towel after the #72 sustained a transmission issue that kept it off the track for more than two hours.

The AF Corse #52 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo has been beleaguered by setbacks. Already lagging behind due to mishaps during the night, the car shared by Serra, Molina and Bird had a puncture just after 9:40 as it exited the Mulsanne Straight, sparking a slow zone. A disappointed Miguel Molina recounted the nightmare: “It’s not our day. We’ll try to get back out to salvage some points in the championship.” The car rejoined the race 25 minutes later, in 43rd place.

LMGTE Am :

AF Corse remains in command in LMGTE Am. The #83 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo is out in front, ahead of the #33 Aston Martin Vantage AMR, with less than a lap between them. Meanwhile, the #88 Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR-19 encountered its share of misfortune this morning, with Dominique Bastien going into a spin, then the car suffered a front-right puncture at around 10:30 when Lance Arnold was at the helm.
