The greatest number of victories by nationality is 32 by British drivers with 42 wins. Contrary to what one might think, it is not necessarily the French who come first, but the British, a cult in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and there are still very many British people around the circuit, sometimes driving improbable cars, and many more in the stands. Paradoxically, only Derek Bell has more than three victories at Le Mans. Note that the winners of the past 2 years are just a win behind and therefore, if Benoit Treluyer added a third consecutive win to his record, the Frenchmen can catch up with the famous Englishmen!
The greatest number of consecutive wins is 6 by the Dane, Tom "Mr. Le Mans" Kristensen (he has 12 podiums - another record). However, he does not hold the record for the most number of consecutive podiums, that is his former team mate at Audi, Emanuele Pirro, with a total of 9, while the Danish star only has 7. The winning trio from last year could continue their momentum with three podiums in a row so far.
The highest number of pole positions is 5 by Jacky Ickx, who held the record for victories at Le Mans before Tom Kristensen overtook him. Surprisingly, only nine drivers have taken more than one pole position in the history of Le Mans. Surprisingly, too, it is Rinaldo "Dindo" Capello (who has 10 podiums and three wins) and not his former team mates, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish, with one pole each, who has three poles to his name. Finally, one driver set pole position the first time he came to Le Mans, William David in 1995.
The largest number of fastest laps in the race is 5, again by Jacky Ickx and only 13 drivers have more than one fastest lap. Among the drivers who will participate in the 90th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Tom Kristensen (has 3), Allan McNish and Loïc Duval (have 2 each).
