Withdrawal of the No. 63 Corvette C7.R after an accident during qualifying

Subsequent to the incident for Jan Magnussen during the second qualifying session, Team Corvette Racing had to take stock of the damage to the No. 63 car. The resulting conclusion was not good: the car is withdrawn for the remainder of the event.

The violence of the impact when the car hit the wall coming out of the Porsche curves quickly caused concern as to the state of the No. 63 Corvette. Though Jan Magnussen escaped the incident unscathed, the technicians for the American team, after lengthy analyses, determined unfortunately that the car could not be repaired in time for the race given the severe nature of the damage.

The team under the leadership of Mark Kent, Head of Chevrolet Racing, had to announced shortly after the end of the third qualifying session the withdrawal of the car. "We are happy Jan was examined and received the doctors' and the ACO's all-clear. At the same time, we are disappointed the No. 63 Corvette C7.R will not be at the start of the 24 Hours. Corvette Racing has made great strides to prepare the two C7.Rs for this race but unfortunately only one will be at the start."

The American team clarified during the announcement that the cause of the incident for the Danish driver was linked to a mechanical problem.

Corvette supporters should focus their support on the No. 64 car driven by Olivan Gavin, Tom Millner and Jordan Taylor.
