Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain – Victory for the #8 Toyota, title for the #7 drivers

The Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain, final round of the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship season, ended in victory for the #8 Toyota GR010 Hybrid of Buemi/Nakajima/Hartley, while their teammates in the #7 sister car clinched the FIA WEC Hypercar Drivers title. In the other classes, the titles and trophies went to Team WRT in LMP2, Porsche in LMGTE Pro and Ferrari in LMGTE Am.

The Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain marked the end of an era for both Kazuki Nakajima (TOYOTA GAZOO Racing) and Anthony Davidson (JOTA) as their final race in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

The start was given in the day and the finish at night, an ideal scenario in celebration of the winners and champions, and a perfect symbol for the essence of endurance racing: competing during the daytime, at night and in all conditions. Many teams were in attendance at this last round to learn the definitive outcome of season 9 of the FIA WEC.

In the Hypercar class, the internal battle between the two TOYOTA GAZOO Racing driver line-ups saw the #8 of trio Buemi/Kobayashi/Hartley win the Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain, and teammates Mike Conway, Kazuki Nakajima and José María López in the #7 score the FIA WEC Hypercar Drivers trophy.

Team WRT with the #31 ORECA 07-Gibson clinched the FIA LMP2 Teams title while Charles Milesi, Ferdinand Habsburg and Robin Frijns secured the LMP2 Drivers trophy. This trio won the 89th 24 Hours of Le Mans in August.

Racing Team Nederland earned the crown in the LMP2 Pro/Am class.

The LMGTE Pro class was decided in the final 10 minutes of the race when a dust-up occurred between the #92 Porsche 911 RSR-19 in the lead and the #51 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo. Race Direction determined the Ferrari responsible for the accident and required it to cede the lead to the Porsche. However, in the end, the #51 finished ahead of the #92. More to come on the identity of the winning marque in the FIA WEC GT Constructors trophy.

In LMGTE Am, AF Corse’s #83 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo won the race as well as the FIA WEC GTE Am Teams and Drivers titles.
